Sports Marketing: Implications of Income Tax Changes

It’s certainly much more than just a “Sports Marketing” issue.  But recent changes to the income tax code – both on the United States’ Federal level & individual state level – are going to play a role in professional moves for 2013.  Mike Walker of Golf.com reports that “Phil Mickelson said he will be making ‘drastic changes’ because of recent tax increases, including California’s new, highest-in-the-nation income tax on the wealthy” [LINK - Golf.com Blog].  Stay tuned: Phil promises more details, as he & Tiger square off at Torrey Pines this weekend [LINK].

The issue has affected European athletes in general for years – remember the famous Bjorn Borg & Boris Becker relocation sagas?

Forbes has an interesting writeup from last fall about, “Why the NFL Will Never Permanently Relocate a Team to London.”

Maybe Ron Paul’s tax ideas are worth another look?  More will surely follow….
